Mrs. Weston was born Oct. 4, 1935, at East St. Louis, Ill. A homemaker, she was of the Catholic faith. On March 26, 1954, she married Ralph Weston. He preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 2000. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Cathy Carroll and husband, Chester, of Poplar Bluff and Sharon Weston of Qulin; one stepson, Leonard Weston and wife, Gwen, of Qulin; one brother-in-law, Bill Weston and wife, Sharon, of Bettendorf, Iowa; six grandchildren; and 14 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillie Roedl; one grandson, Kevin; and one great-grandson, Michael. Baker, 72, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau as the result of injuries she received in an automobile accident in Poplar Bluff. Ms. Baker was born April 15, 1932, in Glennon. She was of the Catholic faith and had retired from Smiley Box Factory. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her dog, Tiny, and striving to have the perfect flower garden. Survivors include two sons, Terry Baker and wife, Cindy, and Mikeal Baker and wife, Shelia, all of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Wes Bridgeman and wife, Almeda, of Swinton and Bill Bridgeman of Poplar Bluff and five grandchildren, Shawn Baker, Shannon Baker, Mike Baker, Adam Baker and Tyler Baker, all of Poplar Bluff. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Anna Bridgeman and a sister-in-law, Barbara Bridgeman. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. Mrs. Tyler was born Feb. 13, 1925, at St. Louis and was a longtime resident of Butler County. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church and a homemaker. Survivors include five daughters, Vera Johns of Poplar Bluff, Martha Easley of McLeansboro, Jewell Frazier of Nevada, Mo., Wanda Tuck of Doniphan and Eva Hughes of Qulin; two sons, Herman Pennington of Wichita, Kan. and Roy Pennington of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, Joe Brown of St. Louis; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------- Fern Tompkins QULIN -- Fern Tompkins, 68, of Pollard, Ark., died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Tompkins was born Oct. 21, 1935, at Qulin and had lived all her life in the Qulin and Pollard area. She was a member of the Trailer's Chapel General Baptist Church and a member of the Cache Bottom Singers. She had formerly attended Fagus General Baptist Church and had served as secretary for 17 years. She was a member of the Clay County Home Extension Club for several years and had served as president of the club. She was a farm wife and a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, singing and cooking. On Sept. 1, 1951, she married Ray Tompkins. He survives. Survivors include one daughter, Sonia Lee of Springfield, La.; two sons, Greg Tompkins of Sheridan, Ark., and Kevin Tompkins of Qulin; two sisters, Betty Brockman of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Judy Hicks of Corning, Ark.; two brothers, Gail Osborn of Corning, Ark., and Garry Osborn of Moscow Mills; eight grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. "Ron" Kellems Sr., 65, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Mr. Kellems was born July 19, 1938, in Qulin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons. On July 1, 1972, he married Carolyn Penrod Hogue. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Carol Rommel and husband, Kenny, of Poplar Bluff, Beverly Kennon and husband, Kenny, of Doniphan and Kim McMullin and husband, Mark, of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren, Mandy Johnson, Tracey Mendez, Tony Vandergriff, Chad Vandergriff, Nicholas Rommel and Cori McMullin; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Davey of Sutter, Calif. and three brothers, Mike Whitmer, David Whitmer and Rex Whitmer, all of Yuba City, Calif. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Kellems Jr. April 10, 2004, and one grandson, Donny Rommel Sept. 27, 2003. Burial will be in the Kinsey Cemetery. Glen Garrett ST. CHARLES -- Glen Garrett, 68, of Qulin, formerly of St. Charles County, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Garrett was born Sept. 16, 1935, at Aberdeen, Miss. He had worked as an assembler for General Motors in St. Louis for 30 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served from April 20, 1944 to April 19, 1957. He was married to Sue Garrett of Qulin. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Brenda Hammock of St. Charles; two sons, David Garrett of St. Peters and Steve Garrett of St. Charles; one sister, Agness Suntkin of St. Louis; one brother, Hollis Garrett of Millstadt, Ill.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. King, 80, of Broseley died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Mrs. King was born Jan. 11, 1924, at Broseley and had lived there all of her life. She attended Lone Oak General Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and loved to garden, quilt and sew. On Aug. 16, 1988, she married Julius King. He preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1989. She was previously married to Bill Hillis on June 6, 1942, he preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1975. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Agee of Augusta, Ga., Brenda Morrison of Huntsville, Ala., and Regina Boatner of Wappapello; one son, Clifford Hillis of Qulin; one stepdaughter, Retta Clyne of Coldwater, Mich.; one stepson, Melvin King of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Verene Barnett of Broseley and Nadine Morehead of St. Louis; two brothers, John Hill of Qulin and Jerene Hill of Mountain Home, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Wilcox was born July 2, 1960, at Jacksonville, Ill. He was a member of the Oglesville Baptist Church in Oglesville. Survivors include his mother, Norma Lucas of Wappapello; one daughter, Danielle Wilcox of St. Louis; one son, Charles Wilcox II of Qulin; two sisters, Rhonda Hager and Cindy Fischer, both of St. Louis and two brothers, Darrell Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz. and Holland E. Burial will be in the Morgan Memorial Park Cemetery in Advance. ------------------------------------------------------------- Delane Davis QULIN -- Delane Davis, 64, of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Mr. Davis was born Dec. 26, 1939, at Qulin, where he lived most of his life. He had lived in Poplar Bluff for 14 years. He retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation in August 1990 after 30 years of service for which he was recognized for his initiative and ingenuity. He enjoyed hunting, collecting guns, knives and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include one son, Vernon Delane Davis and wife, Carolyn, of Fredericktown; two sisters, JoAnn Bruce of Qulin and Sue Heaton of Wappapello; his mother, Virginia Davis of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren, Amanda Nichole Davis of State College, Pa., and Tyler Delane Davis of Poplar Bluff and their mother, Shiela Davis of Poplar Bluff; two nieces; two nephews and two great-nieces. Burial will be in the Qulin Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------- Evelyn Payne QULIN - Evelyn Payne, 89, of Columbia, Ill., died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill. Mrs. Payne was born May 26, 1914, in Monnett, Ark. Before moving to Columbia eight years ago, she lived in Poplar Bluff for 13 years. She had lived at Fagus about 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. She had formerly been a member of the Fagus General Baptist Church before moving to Poplar Bluff. She was a member of the Poplar Bluff Garden Club. A homemaker, Mrs. Payne enjoyed gardening, needlework and reading the Bible. She married D.C. Payne Nov. 17, 1936. He died Sept. 26, 1987. Survivors include one daughter, Helen Overall of Columbia, Ill.; two sons, Leland Payne of St. Louis and James Payne of Ghent, W. VA.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector, Ark. ------------------------------------------------------------- Evelyn Nance ELLSINORE -- Evelyn Marie Nance, 56, of Waterloo, Ill., died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at her residence. Mrs. Nance was born Dec. 13, 1947, in Poplar Bluff and was a former resident of Ellsinore. She had lived in Waterloo for the past 18 years. She was a member of the Nazarene Church of Columbia, Ill., and department manager and sales clerk at Wal-Mart in Waterloo. She enjoyed reading, fishing, crocheting and attending her church. On May 18, 1979, she married Claude Nance at St. Louis. He survives. Other survivors include her mother, Cathren Friend of Ellsinore; two sons, Jerry Leach of Van Buren and Jason Nance of St. Louis; one sister, Debra Lavender of Waterloo; two brothers, Howard Hall of Qulin and Donald Hall of Franklin, N. "Ken" Underwood, 62, of Poplar Bluff died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Underwood was born Nov. 21, 1941, at Wichita, Kan. He was a member of the Old Oak Hill Community Church and a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Butler County. He was a member of the Missouri Deputy Sheriff Association and a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed playing music, woodwork and spending time with his grandchildren. On June 17, 1966, he married Deanna Lou Ward in Poplar Bluff. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Frey and husband James of Poplar Bluff; one son, David Underwood of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Marilyn Ousley and Virginia Stratton, both of Springfield; four grandchildren, James Vincent of Claremont, N.C., Joshua Frey of Poplar Bluff and Adam Underwood and Megan Underwood, both of Qulin; and a special family friend, Audrey Selina Adams of Qulin. Melburn Deaton officiating. ------------------------------------------------------------- Robert Lee Thomas, 98, of Qulin died Friday, April 2, 2004, at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Thomas was born July 27, 1905, in Searcy, Ark. He was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Thomas was a retired factory worker. He married Carolyn Jones Sept. 14, 1973, at Piggott, Ark. She survives. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Qulin Cemetery in Qulin. Richardson, 51, of Pekin, Ill., died Sunday March 14, 2004, at Pekin Hospital. Mr. Richardson was born Feb. 17, 1953, in Hernando, Miss. He was a driver for Fort Transfer in Morton, Ill. for 10 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 627 in Peoria and Harley Owners Group (HOG) in Peoria. On Dec. 28, 1989, he married Jade W. Nevear at Pekin. She survives. Other survivors include his parents, Vernon S. and N. Lenora Arnold Richardson of Qulin; two daughters, Brandi Burris and Holly Richardson, both of Pekin; one son, Shane Richardson of Pekin; two sisters, Margrett Duncan of East Peoria, Ill. and Crystal Richardson of Qulin; two brothers, Fred Richardson of Cleveland, Texas and Doug Richardson of Peoria Heights, Ill. Mrs. Leroux was born May 7, 1921, in Ripley County and was a member of the Sugar Tree Baptist Church. She was retired from Vitronic and Brown Shoe Company. On Dec. 24, 1940, she married James H. Leroux. He preceded her in death. She was previously married to Euel Carson and he preceded her in death also. Survivors include one daughter, Darlene Leroux Kelly of Poplar Bluff; one son, Don Carson of Doniphan; three sisters, Jaunita Buck of Lebanon, Lavern Heavener of Qulin and Caroletta Harness of Doniphan; two brothers, J. R. Moore and Dewayne Moore, both of Doniphan; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, James "Short" Leroux and Ronald Dale Carson and her parents, H. A. Mrs. Osborn was born April 15, 1912, at Qulin and had lived there all of her life. She attended the Osborn General Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. On Nov. 9, 1929, she married Bennie F. Osborn. He preceded her in death July 30, 2003. Survivors include one daughter, Darlene Duncan of Dexter; two sons, Charles Dewayne Osborn of Poplar Bluff and Frank Osborn of Bunker; one sister, Esther McFarland of Victorville, Calif.; one brother, Sylvester Lancaster of Victorville; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by one son, Augustus J. Mrs. Hood was born Sept. 21, 1921, at Mammoth Springs, Ark. She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. On May 1, 1937, she married Johnny Sence at Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death. On Sept. 30, 1972, she married Alfred Hood at St. Louis. He preceded her in death Aug. 4, 1984. Survivors include five daughters, Margaret Thomas of Corning, Ark., Duggie McKinney and husband Shon of Corning, Alberta Hardin and husband Darnel of Qulin, Nyoika Brown and husband Willard of Piedmont, and Brenda Patterson of Qulin; one son, Johnny Sence Jr. and wife Vicki of St. Louis; one sister, Snowdy Adams of Festus; four brothers, Jewell Lester and Charles Lester, both of Neelyville, Albert Lester of Naples, Fla. and Truman Davis of Pocahontas, Ark.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. ------------------------------------------------------------- Lela Atkins QULIN -- Lela L. Atkins, 80, of Qulin died Monday, March 1, 2004, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff. Mrs. Atkins was born Feb. 3, 1924, at Broseley and had lived at Qulin since 1977, when she and her husband retired. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She had formerly served as chaplain of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Qulin American Legion Post 494. She worked for Bussman Fuse in St. Louis until her retirement in 1974. She enjoyed bowling and had bowled in the Wednesday night mixed league until having knee surgery five years ago. She played golf in the Tuesday night couples league at Lakeview Country Club at Neelyville. She also enjoyed playing cards. On March 27, 1948, she married Earl Richard Atkins. He survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Neeta Faye Craig of Farmington; a special cousin, Lillian Winters of Jonesburg; three grandchildren, Karen Marler and husband Daniel and Connie Koch and husband Paul, all of Cadet, and Debra Koch and husband John of Desloge; three great- grandchildren, Tim Craig of Farmington and his fiancee Brandi and Kristen Koch and Erin Koch, both of Desloge; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and several godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Mae Hicks and by two great-grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Koch and Sarah Renee Koch. Burial will be in the Brown Chapel Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------- LANCASTER, Frank Malden - Funeral services for Frank Joseph Lancaster, 81-year-old Qulin resident who burned to death in his car Wednesday evening, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Landess Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Qulin Cemetery. A lifelong resident of Qulin area, Lancaster was corn August 16, 1891, in Stoddard County. He was married to the former Mary Losh November 1941. He was a member of the Osborn General Baptist Church at Qulin. Survivors include his wife: three daughters, Mrs. Opal Lenox, St. Louis, Mrs. Ester McFarland. Covina, Calif., and Mrs. Marie Osborn, Qulin; a son Sylvester (Bud) Lancaster, Conoga Park. Calif.; a half-sister, Ruth Issac, Bakersfield, Calif,; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. ------------------------------------------------------------- REDMON Earnest QULIN -- Earnest D. Redmon, 90 of Qulin died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Redmon was born (Oct. 7, 1912 in Malden. He was a member of the Qulin Trinity Pentecost Church and was a retired farmer. He loved gardening. In 1982, he married Lora Wilkes in Qulin. She preceded him in death May 29, 2002. Survivors include several stepchildren; three brothers, Ralph Redmon of Anniston Ala., and James Redmon and Delbert Redmon, both of Cottage Hills, Ill.; one sister, Stella Neely of Fredericktown; and several step-children. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin with the Rev. N.A. Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Brown Chapel Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------- Mary Ruth Marcus, 79, of Qulin died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at her residence. Mrs. Marcus was born April 16, 1924, in rural Fagus and was a member of the Fagus General Baptist Church. She was a member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary and a retired inspector for Elder's Manufacturing in Dexter. On July 11, 1946, she married Leon Marcus at Chicago. He survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Gloria Bell of Bloomfield; four grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; six great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Bobby was born in Lake City Arkansas, and attended school in Qulin, and St. Louis Missouri. Bobby had been a resident of Ontario and Victorville, California for 30 years He had been a resident of Valley Healthcare Center for the past two years. Bobby passed away at the San Bernardino Medical Center, following an illness with pneumonia complications. Bobby has been an active volunteer at the H.O.W.E residence for troubled young men in Victorville, California. He has received several awards for his participation at the H.O.W.E. residence. Bobby is proceeded in Death by his parents. Henry Hassie Hudson, Lola Pauline Hudson and a brother James Eulas Hudson Bobby is survived by two brothers, William Hudson and wife Mary of Newburg, MO., Cleatis Hudson of Newburg, MO. , two sisters, Della Clark of Newburg, MO., and Naomi Grace Norman and husband Bob of Wappapello, Missouri, several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Roach Cemetery, Doolittle, Missouri ------------------------------------------------------------- Agnes Webb QULIN -- Agnes Loraine Campbell Webb, 81, of Sweeney, Texas, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at the Sweeney Community Hospital in Sweeney. Mrs. Webb was born Oct. 18, 1922, at Qulin and had lived in Sweeney for 20 years. She was a nurse and a graduate of the LPN school in Poplar Bluff. She was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. Survivors include one daughter, Terri Lea Conner of Baytown, Texas; five sisters, Phyllis Cookson and Sally Morehead, both of Broseley, Jannette Swain of Blytheville, Ark., Joan Pogue of Puxico and Jeannie Stout of Hillsdale, Mich.; three brothers, Albert Campbell of Davison, Mich., Buel Campbell of Qulin and Loyce Campbell of Park Hills and one granddaughter. A private graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Qulin Cemetery with the Rev. Loyce Campbell officiating. White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin is in charge of arrangements. ------------------------------------------------------------- Eva Matchett QULIN -- Eva Lee Matchett, 77, of Broseley died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus in Poplar Bluff. Mrs. Matchett was born Jan. 8, 1927, in St. Francis, Ark. She had resided in Butler County most of her life and was a resident of Westwood Hills Health Care for the past few years. She was a former member of the Fagus General Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to the Brown Chapel General Baptist Church, where she was the pianist. She was a graduate of Arkansas State University and had been an elementary school teacher for 36 years. Mrs. Matchett started teaching at the Caldonia School near Broseley and later taught at Elk and Fagus. She then taught at Qulin until her retirement from the Twin Rivers school district in 1981. On Nov. 30, 1945, she married Hubert Matchett Sr. He survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Eva Barnett and husband Dennis of Broseley; one son, Hubert Matchett Jr. and wife Lesa of Harviell; three sisters, Edith Moffitt, Lois Bond and Jeanette Bradley; one brother, Bob King; three grandchildren, Melissa Dowd of Poplar Bluff, Kelly Null of Qulin and Barry Barnett of Broseley; and three great-grandchildren, Drew and Mackenzie Dowd and Karson Null. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonah and Cora King; two sisters, Lavora Comer and Irene Pattillo; and two brothers, Billy King and Marvin King. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Gary Hancock officiating. Burial will be in the Brown Chapel Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------- Walter Suiter QULIN -- Walter "Hob" Suiter, 47, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Suiter was born Sept. 14, 1956, in St. Louis and had lived most of his life in Qulin. He was a former baseball coach in the summer baseball program at Qulin. He enjoyed playing softball and loved fishing. Survivors include one son, Nicholas Suiter of Oxley; one stepdaughter, Carey Hilton of Fairdealing; two sisters, Pat Drew of Qulin and Brenda Hosea of St. Francis, Ark.; three brothers, Fred Suiter and Jerry Suiter, both of Qulin and Darrell Suiter of Poplar Bluff and one grandson. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Qulin Cemetery, with burial following.
